We stayed at the Marriott Plaza again this year

I didn’t love the room as much as last year (though the grounds were still beautiful, the pool was great, and the boys had a good time watching an outdoor movie)

though our balcony didn’t have a great view like last time, either

We’ll definitely be switching to another Riverwalk hotel next time. Still had a great time in SA, though!

We stayed at the Marriott Plaza this year because we wanted to use some points — but looking at options for our next visit to SA, there are *so* many fabulous hotels there, some right on the Riverwalk and others a short distance, and some that look especially nice are much further out but have their own water parks, like the Gaylord Texan which we stay at each year.

1939 Section of Fine Arts Mural, Montevallo AL
The Montevallo Post Office has this wonderful mural, painted in 1939 by William Sherrill McCall, called ‘Early Settlers Weighing Cotton’:
It’s soooo nice. My WPA book says that there’s a mistake in the mural – Jersey cattle were unknown during that era of Alabama history.
We had a wonderful time chatting with the sweet lady that works at the counter. She’s worked there 44 years! She told us all about the marble, and the mahogany wood, and we talked about how thick the doors are, and how nice everything is….she also said that this particular post office was built so that postal inspectors could show up at any time without anyone knowing (through a different entrance) and that they could see all the work being done from above. The post office still does postal inspector training at their post office. She said she’s never once talked to any of them, and nobody has any idea when the inspectors are there…
