For a few years now, there’s been a lot of interest in tiny homes. In Ozark, Alabama, we found St. James Place which is a little development of these homes, as rentals.
When doing research on these, I found this very nice site that mentions this development — the ones above are 500 sq ft (renting for $500/mo) and these below are 1000 sq ft:

These tiny houses made me think of Katrina Cottages, which many of us in this part of the US are already familiar with. How these came about (after the hurricane, obv) is here; Lowe’s even has a dedicated section of their website on them. You can purchase an already-built KC at 396 sq ft for $20k plus the cost of moving.
