Going To The Blue Light Special. Blue Light Special Art Show, That Is.

This weekend is the Blue Light Special Art Show, and it’s being held at Cahaba Clayworks in Leeds, Alabama this Saturday and Sunday (Sat 9a-5p, Sun 10a-4p).

It’s described this way at their site: “Blue Light means bargains–discontinued items, slightly imperfects, atypical items—all priced to move, mixed together with award-winning art.”

Besides the art show, which is $2/person admission, they are also doing an Empty Bowls charity event. For $25, you can enjoy a bowl of soup prepared by Chris Hastings of Hot and Hot, or one prepared by the cooks at Laney’s there in Leeds, or by Chef Sean Butler of Food Studio B. The $25 is tax-deductible and goes to charity: the Leeds Welfare Cooperative and First Light Womans Shelter.

So you get to eat soup, *and* you get to bring the bowl home with you! It’s an Earthborn Pottery bowl by Tena Payne and Tena told me this week that the bowl you take home will not be the one you eat from (who wants to bring home a dirty bowl, right?!) – it will be a new one already wrapped up to go. Nice!
This is a pic of some of that are part of the Empty Bowls project:

Okay – now let’s talk art!

An entire listing of the artists that will be showing is here – there are some *really* accomplished artists in the group – these are just a few: Larry Allen, Deborah Ballog, Mimi Boston, Toby Klein, Ethel Owen, Tena Payne, Bill Smith.

Can’t wait to see what they bring!

Next week posts: crafts and food and art and more crafts.
