Dream Rocket Up Close, And Miss Baker

We took the boys to the Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville the last time we were there, especially since we’re going to start working soon on the Dream Theme Panel as part of the Dream Rocket Project to cover the Saturn V with a giant quilt:

Not too far from where I took this pic is Miss Baker, the squirrel monkey who rode inside the nose cone of an Army Jupiter missile in 1959 to a 300-mile altitude. She passed away in 1984 and is buried on the grounds of the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. The monument reads ‘first U.S. animal to fly in space and return alive’.

People leave her bananas still:
