New Folk Art Gallery At BMA

On February 1, we planned a day in the big city to see the opening of the new Folk Art Gallery at the Museum of Art.  While we were there, the Avondale Church of Christ Gospel Choir was performing (they won the 16th Street Baptist Church choir competition).  It was really lovely, with the choir situated around all the Dale Chihuly glasswork:

I don’t know how, but the baby managed to sleep through our whole museum visit!

I wasn’t able to take pictures inside the gallery because it’s considered a rotating exhibit (even though they are pieces owned by the museum, so anyway…) but I was able to get a pic of this Thornton Dial piece because it was out in the hallway.  It’s called “Bird, Cat Sculpture, Lady and Tiger Painting”:

The Arrington gallery on the second floor will house the Folk Art exhibition for the rest of the year.
