Toile, Toile, Toile

After the post I did on the New Orleans toile that I bought from Hazelnut, I was wondering how someone would go about commissioning a custom toile. There’s a company called Town Toiles (update: I think they are no longer in business) that can do it – and besides commissioned requests, they have their own line of fabrics with scenes from Boston, Charleston, Chicago, Nantucket, New York, San Francisco, and Tampa.

Glasgow-based Timorous Beasties has a very different style of toile in patterns for London and Glasgow. Very different.

Architextiles carries a Louisiana Purchase toile, here.

The toile that’s in the foyer at Commander’s Palace (I wish I had taken a picture of it the last time I was there!) was done by Silver Hill Atelier to depict regional scenes. It was then embellished by Richard Saja (you *have* to see this & some of his other work!).
