Howard Finster Folk Art Show, Sudduth

I just got an email that during Fort Payne’s (Ft. Payne, AL) “Boom Days” festival, which starts September 14th, they will host the Howard Finster Folk Art Show and Sale in the Culture & Heritage Center (Purdy Building).

Howard was born in Valley Head, which is just about 12 miles or so outside of Ft. Payne, so since Paradise Gardens is closed for renovations, it makes sense that they would hold the art show there.

There are some *really great* pics of Paradise Gardens, and Howard’s art, here on Flickr.

Jimmy Lee Sudduth died on Sunday at the age of 97. 97!

A legend.

He would come to Kentuck, sit under a shade tree, and sell his paintings until they were all gone, then he would get up and go home. We bought one of his paintings from him there.

There’s an obit for him here from the B’ham News.
