We had made reservations to stay the night at the Horseshoe Casino Hotel in Tunica for the evening we were coming back from Little Rock (the Sheraton was booked) but when we arrived there…the person that was checking us in gave us the paper to sign verifying the rate and to get our keys, and Av and I asked if we were getting an upper-floor, non-smoking room like we had requested online. She was putting us in a smoking, 2nd floor room, and said that if we wanted to pay $100 extra we could have a non-smoking suite. I don’t think the person was even going to tell us we were getting a smoking room if Av hadn’t asked.
I understand that hotels run out of non-smoking rooms, and it’s totally okay with me whenever we check in somewhere and one of the upper rooms isn’t available, but I didn’t think it was right that the person didn’t let us know that we weren’t getting what we had requested.
I asked if we would be penalized if we cancelled the reservation right then and the person said that we wouldn’t, so we instead made reservations at the hotel next door, which was the Gold Strike Casino Hotel. We hadn’t stayed there before, so we thought we would give it a try…and they did have non-smoking rooms available.
The pic above is of our room at the Gold Strike – it was okay. So far in Tunica, we’ve liked the Sheraton best.
